One of the most exciting parts of garment-making is when inspiration hits you. It could be a spark of curiosity – “can I actually make this?” Or, it could be gorgeous colored fabric you simply *must* make something from. Or, it could be an expensive blouse that’s gone viral, and you simply want to join in on the fun and hopefully get a cute top out of it once you’re done.
For me, inspiration struck when I was in search for more “simple” tops to make to really challenge my newfound sewing skills. Perusing the internet quickly led me to a theme of ruffled and cinched garments that all seemed so feminine and fun. I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of potential clothes I can make from my modest stash of remnants and cheap bedsheets. I want to record my adventures and discoveries. And hopefully you can learn a few things, too. Or you can simply enjoy the journey with me.
I want to make my own version of the Ganni blouse. As much as I love the original design, it’s the elements I draw inspiration from. I want to make a blouse that’s a bit longer, perhaps more sheer, and maybe dip the neckline a bit. Can I do it? I don’t have much sewing experience, and even less experience working with a sewing machine. I don’t own an iron, but I have a very good pair of fabric shears. I don’t have the best needles, but I do have a lot of motivation. And I don’t have much fabric, but I have my curiosity.
Stay tuned for the next post as I get started on how the heck I’m going to pull this off.
In the meantime, you can enjoy these links that I most certainly will be drawing inspiration from.
